The Meals-on-Wheels committee of the Woman’s Association schedules a program of dinners to be delivered twice a month from September through June to a shelter serving 30 homeless men – Northside Housing and Supportive Services (formerly Lakeview Shelter) in Chicago.  Meals are prepared by chapter members at home and brought to Glenview Community Church to be delivered to the shelter by volunteer drivers.

The original program was started in 1956 by women in our church when the need was pointed out by a clinic physician at Erie Neighborhood House for a program of home-delivered meals to shut-ins in the area.  The program expanded to include thirteen churches in Chicago and the suburbs, each participating on different days of the month.  Thirty hot meals were packaged individually and delivered directly to clients, providing food as well as social contact.  In 1996, the GCC program changed its outreach to Lakeview Shelter.
