Men’s Ministry Volunteer Opportunities 2012

Nativity Scene Take Down – January 7.  MM teams with Properties Board to take down the Nativity Scene.  VOLUNTEERS – Around six are needed in total.  TIME – about two hours starting at 9:00 am.

Rebuilding Together – 4/28/2012 (Tentative).  MM teams with Missions Outreach and GCC volunteers in general to help rehab the home of a family who cannot afford to do it themselves.  This is part of a nationwide program.  VOLUNTEERS - Experience is welcome, but not required (they take me).  As many as possible.  TIME – 8am – 4pm (preferred). Half days can also be accommodated.  At the end of the day, you really know you have made an impact on a family’s life.

Painting the Youth Room – April 28 - May 6 (Tentative).  MM teams with PYF to paint the youth room on Sunday, May 6.  Preparation will be required the week/weekend before.  VOLUNTEERS - As many as possible 4/28 and 5/6.  TIME - two hour shifts morning into early afternoon on both days.

Summer Maintenance Project.  In the summer of 2012 - TBD.  Each summer MM takes on a significant facilities maintenance project to help out our facilities maintenance staff which does a lot of maintenance work around the church during the slower summer months.  This past year we cleaned all the chairs in the Mayflower/Founders room (about 200 in all).  The year before we painted the gym.  VOLUNTEERS – as many as possible.  This is one of the hardest projects to staff.  TIME – I usually break out the project into multiple 2–3hour shifts over about a week – usually in July or August.

Helping Hands – 11/XX/2012 (Tentative).  MM volunteers will join with GCC Confirmands to form a team from GCC to clean up yards of senior citizens in Glenview who do not have the means to do this work themselves.  Volunteers will meet on Saturday, November 12, at 9:00 at the West Entrance of GCC.  Volunteers should bring a rake and work gloves. VOLUNTEERS – the more, the merrier.  TIME.  From 9:00 am to around noon or as long as you can help.

Nativity Scene Setup – 12/1.  MM teams with Properties Board to set up the Nativity Scene on the GCC south lawn (we also help take it down, but that date varies each year).  VOLUNTEERS – around six are needed in total.  TIME – usually about 2 hours starting at 9:00 am.

Snow Shoveling.  Winter.  MM shovels the walks around GCC on Sunday morning when it snows on Saturday night which saves GCC overtime.  We have 3-4 teams so it ends up being once a month or less.  VOLUNTEERS – we have pretty much filled up the teams, but there are still a few openings.  TIME – 1 hour no more than once a month.
