Nativity Scene Take Down – January 5. MM teams with Properties Board to take down the Nativity Scene. VOLUNTEERS – Around six are needed in total. TIME – about two hours starting at 9:00 am.
Dental Access Days -4/5-6, 10/25-26). Two days (Fri., Sat.) when dentists volunteer to provide free dental services to people who cannot afford dental care. MM and MOB help set up and take down the temporary venue. VOLUNTEERS – around 2 – 4 needed each day. TIME – about 3 hours.
Rebuilding Together – 4/27. MM teams with Ministry Outreach and GCC volunteers in general to help rehab the home of a family who cannot afford to do it themselves. This is part of a nationwide program. VOLUNTEERS – Experience is welcome, but not required (they take me). As many as possible. TIME – 8am – 4pm (preferred). Half days can also be accommodated.
A Just Harvest – 5/4, 12/1. MM volunteers twice a year to serve at the AJH soup kitchen. This is a popular event and we encourage intergenerational participation. Children 15 and older my participate with a parent. Optionally many of the participants go out to dinner together after serving. VOLUNTEERS – 8 to 10 is the typical size of a shift. TIME – Meet at the GCC West Entrance at 3:00 to load the donations and car pool to AJH (in Rogers Park). Serving/clean up ends around 6:30.
Summer Project – June. MM volunteers will participate in some sub-projects supporting the overall GCC Construction Project. These have not been defined as yet.
Rally Day – 9/8. MM purchases and grills burgers and hot dogs for Rally Day. VOLUNTEERS – Rally Day – 6-8 people to setup, grill and take-down. TIME – Rally Day – 9:00 2 people for setup (1 hour), 10:15 – 6-8 to grill, serve, 2 people to take-down (2 hours).
Helping Hands –TBD. MM volunteers will join with GCC confirmands to form a team from GCC to clean up yards of senior citizens in Glenview who do not have the means to do this work themselves. Volunteers will meet on Saturday at 9:00 at the West Entrance of GCC. VOLUNTEERS – no limit. TIME. From 9:00 am to around noon.
Nativity Scene Setup – 12/7. MM teams with Properties Board to set up the Nativity Scene on the GCC south lawn (we also help take it down, but that date varies each year). VOLUNTEERS – around six are needed in total. TIME – usually about 2 hours starting at 9:00 am.
A Just Harvest Donation Pickup. Year-round. In addition to serving at AJH twice a year, the MM picks up donations once a month from Gordon Food Service and Whole Foods on the Saturday before the first Sunday of the month (one of the days when GCC serves at AJH each month). VOLUNTEERS – 4 each month. TIME – 9:00am -10:30am on the noted Saturday once a month.
Snow Shoveling. Winter. MM shovels the walks around GCC on Sunday morning when it snows on Saturday night. We also shovel on Saturday when there is an event, on a best efforts basis. We have 4-5 teams so it ends up being once a month or less. VOLUNTEERS – We look for volunteers who live relatively close to GCC so it is easy to get here when the snow falls. TIME – 1-2 hours
