Christmas season is a vibrant time at Glenview Community Church! Throughout the Advent season, we have special worship services celebrating the joy of the season featuring performances from musical and youth groups from the church. On Christmas Eve, we hold three services to meet the diverse interests and demographics of our community, often including a family-focused service, a music-focused caroling service, and a more formal candlelight late-night service.

Christmas is a time of sharing. Embracing a spirit of good cheer, we host Christmas concerts for local musical groups as well as our annual Toy-ful Celebration Concert, which gathers donations for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive. In addition to the Toy drive, GCC engages in the giving spirit of the Christmas season by providing opportunities to give back through service projects and donation campaigns. These historically have including organizing a day to pack meals with Feed My Starving Children and – with input from our outreach partners – gathering donations of much-needed items, such as winter clothing, for those in need.

Many members of GCC and the Glenview community are familiar with GCC’s annual production of “The Nativity,” often referred to as “The Pageant.” This unique production ran nearly uninterrupted from 1951 through 2021 and featured the youth of the church with the accompaniment of an adult narrator, the Chancel Choir, and GCC instrumentalists. While the full-scale production is no longer performed, the legacy of the Pageant lives on in a special Pageant Music Sunday and a special family-focused retelling of the Nativity story during worship using many of the original elaborate costumes.

Easter

Easter and Lent are a time for reflection and celebration, and Glenview Community Church is ready to support your Easter faith journey! Leading up to Easter, the church hosts Ash Wednesday and Holy Week worship services and events. Faith formation and fellowship opportunities abound including Lenten retreats, prayer journeys, and time to learn about GCC’s outreach/mission partners. Sunday worship services throughout the season feature many of GCC’s musical groups to celebrate the transition to spring and the coming of Easter. In addition to Communion during worship on the first Sunday of the month, Communion is also offered immediately after each service in Lent for those who would like to participate.

Easter is a joyous time at GCC! We hold two Easter morning services to accommodate varying family schedules. Families are invited to join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt on the church lawn (or indoors, if the weather is poor) between services.

The Holy Week and Easter worship schedule will be available leading up to Holy Week and through the Easter weekend.
