Membership commitments and rewards

Membership at GCC means commitment to a few things: attending worship, engaging in the wider church by volunteering, and contributing to the church’s ministries through pledges. While these are not strict rules for membership, they serve as a guideline for what we generally expect from our members. We welcome everyone, no matter who they are or where they are on life’s journey, and we recognize that everyone will have different levels of contributions they can make, whether financial, time, and/or talents.

Because we are a congregational church, our members make key decisions such as approving the annual budget, electing lay leaders, and hiring ministers! Committees of congregrants, with support of the ministerial and office staff, assist in keeping our church programs running smoothly and prepare reports for the annual budget and semi-annual congregational meetings, which all members are invited to attend and vote at. For those looking to get more involved, membership is a requirement to serve on committees or to be elected to lay leader positions.

While all are always welcome to attend GCC and be engaged in community life here, becoming a member gives us a chance to formally introduce you to the church and to celebrate that you are with us!

How to become a member

Becoming a member is as simple as letting one of our ministers know that you are ready to join. This could happen at an inquiring new member session (held approximately quarterly as a chance for prospective members to learn more about GCC – let us know if you would like to be invited!) or it could happen via phone call or email. After you let us know of your intent to join, we will make sure you understand the above commitments, answer any questions you may have, and then set up a date to officially welcome you!
