At this time, Glenview Community Church is looking to hire a Children’s Music Director.

Position Description

Report to: Director of Music

Exempt: 6-8 hours/week, 9 months/year

Salary: Hourly, $46/hour. Approx. $10,000/year

Qualifications

College degree (or working towards a college degree) related to music, worship or a related field. 

Ability to conduct a variety of choral repertoire.

Ability to lead effective choral rehearsals.

Possess skills to lead worship. Proficiency in guitar and/or keyboard strongly preferred.

Ability to work cooperatively with other music staff, church staff and volunteers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Grow and foster an engaging children’s choir experience.

  • Provide musical experience for children during Sunday School, schedule TBD. Estimated 1x/month.
  • Prepare the Children’s Choir(s) grades K-8 to sing at Sunday worship service periodically September through May, and to sing at Toys For Tots Concert and Christmas Eve worship.
  • Lead rehearsals of the Children’s Choirs approximately once each week during the choir season. Lead a warm-up rehearsal with children before worship when they sing.
  • Prepare the Children’s Choir(s) to present a musical or special worship service once per choir season.
  • Select and purchase music for the choirs according to the goals of the music program and provisions of the music budget in consultation with the Director of Music.
  • Assist in keeping the church’s choral libraries organized and maintained.
  • Communicate the Children’s Choir repertoire for each worship service to the Minister in charge of the service, as well as to the Director of Music. Follow deadlines.
  • Work with children’s choir parent volunteers in preparation for rehearsals.
  • Meet as needed with music staff and ministers to plan worship services.

Professional Development: 

  • Attend Conferences and Seminars as needed to develop and enhance craft or job skills. 
  • Mentoring by Director of Music & Director of Adult Choirs.

Current Rehearsal Schedule:

  • Voices of GCC children’s choir – Sundays, 11:15a-12:00p
  • Sunday School – Sundays, 10:00-11:00a.  1x/month
  • High School worship time – Sundays, 10:00-11:00a.  1x/month
  • Additional rehearsals/extended rehearsal time as needed.
